About Us
Pitcorthie Playgroup is a long established playgroup set up in the John Marshall Community Centre over 40 years ago to serve the new Pitcorthie estate. Our playgroup has expanded over the years and we now welcome children from all over Dunfermline and the surrounding areas. Playgroup offers a wide variety of exciting, stimulating resources and activities that are geared to cover all aspects of your child’s ever-increasing educational needs and development. It is our aim to provide your child with an introduction to play and learning that will fuel their imaginations for the future.
We are in partnership with Fife Council which means that children can receive their funding at Playgroup. Many of our parents do this or choose to split their funding between nursery and Playgroup, thus providing a broader, richer variety of pre-school education.
We are members of Early Years Scotland and registered with the Care Inspectorate. All our staff are registered with SSSC and we work closely with CSNIPs (Children with Support Needs in Pre-School) who can provide play friends for children who require short-term or longer support in Playgroup.
We have a large, bright and airy playroom which is a welcoming play space for the children and our ‘open door’ policy allows children constant access to outdoor play with bikes, scooters, mud kitchen and water wall. We provide a healthy daily snack and have themed snacks around festivals throughout the year.
Mission Statement
Pitcorthie Playgroup provides a safe, happy, fun and stimulating educational environment in which children are valued as unique individuals, supported by caring, experienced and qualified practitioners.
Aims
Starting preschool education is an important step for a young child and their parents or carers. The main aim of our playgroup is to provide a safe, secure, stimulating and caring environment for children to develop and prepare for their transition from playgroup to school. At Pitcorthie Playgroup, we aim to:
- Welcome and value every child in our care and their family so that each child can learn, develop and achieve to their full potential
- Promote equality and value diversity
- Recognise parents as the first and most important carers and educators of their children and by working together, we aim to provide the best possible early years’ experience
- Continue self-improvement for the benefit of the children and the group
- Encourage children to appreciate and respect their environment and those around them
- Provide the highest quality of care and learning for all the children by our dedicated, experienced and enthusiastic staff
What Parents Say....
“The ladies are all a credit to themselves, building strong and lasting relationships. My child also loves the extended outdoor play and sessions and the range of learning experiences offered.”
“We are extremely pleased with the high level of care provided and how well the children are known by all staff.”
“My child has come on so much since attending Pitcorthie Playgroup. She likes to draw and tell me about the weekly song which she sings all weekend and always about the snack she got. My child sometimes gets upset being left but the staff are wonderful and calm her down and reassure me she is fine.”
